Patient Pathway Coordinator/ Medical Secretary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Patient Pathway Coordinator/Medical Secretary to join the Urology Department.
This is an exciting and challenging role within the Urology Service in which the post holder would have an opportunity to make a direct positive impact on patient experience within the Trust.
The post holder must be IT literate and have the ability to navigate trust IT systems as well as monitor the utilisation of theatre lists and ensure they are fully utilised.
The duties and responsibilities are representative of the Patient Pathway Coordinator/Medical Secretary role and its purpose within the service; they are not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake additional or alternative administrative and managerial duties and responsibilities commensurate with the level of the post, to support the smooth running of the department.
To support the Department and Admissions in ensuring the National 18 week RTT Programme and the Elective Access policy aims to ensure that all patients referred for care at King’s are treated efficiently, effectively, and in a timely manner appropriate to their clinical condition and RTT management is in line with national guidance, access targets, and the best standards of patient care.

Responsible for the provision of administrative duties to the Urology clinical teams ensuring that quality standards are met and confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Booking outpatient appointments and coordinating diagnostic tests, utilising Epic for all patient bookings and patient pathways.
Management of diaries and pending folders for investigations and diagnostics.

These will include personal enquiries from patients and their relatives, as well as calls from GP’s, clinicians, students, nursing and administrative staff, at all times understanding the sensitive nature of calls.
To manage and answer all telephone calls related to the service in a courteous and tactful manner to ensure that patients and visitors are communicated with effectively and patient focus is maintained and ensuring problems are dealt with promptly and efficiently.
To deal with stressful situations that may arise when dealing with patients who are anxious or distressed using tact and diplomacy at all times.
To provide information and advice to patients and relatives where appropriate relating to admissions and appointments and/or redirect to appropriate member of staff.
To manage confidential patient material in a sensitive and discrete fashion in compliance with Trust policy and procedure
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of an effective and seamless administrative and secretarial service to Clinical Consultants and their surgical team within the Urology Department. You will liaise with the multi-disciplinary team, internal departments and external agencies to ensure continuity in achieving excellence in patient care.
This job description is generic and posts will differ in emphasis depending upon the size of the Consultant’s clinical practice and administrative team, therefore this post may develop over time to meet the specific needs of the Clinical unit.
