**Job Title: Medical Secretary**

**Job Summary**: The Medical Secretary plays a crucial role in supporting the efficient functioning of the hospital department by providing administrative and secretarial assistance to medical professionals and staff. This position involves a combination of clerical tasks, patient interaction, and coordination of administrative processes.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Appointment Scheduling**:

- Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, surgeries, and follow-up visits. Maintain an organized calendar for physicians and other medical staff.
- **Patient Interaction**: Greet and assist patients in a courteous and professional manner.
- Answer phone calls, address inquiries, and provide information to patients as needed.
- Collect and update patient information, including medical history and insurance details.
- **Record Keeping**:

- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Ensure proper documentation of medical histories, test results, and other relevant information.
- File and retrieve medical records as necessary.
- **Transcription and Documentation**:

- Transcribe medical notes, correspondence, and other documents as dictated by healthcare providers.
- Prepare and proofread medical reports and correspondence.
- **Insurance Coordination**:

- Verify patient insurance information and process insurance claims.
- Assist patients with insurance-related inquiries and coordinate with billing department.
- **Administrative Support**:

- Provide general administrative support, including managing correspondence, handling mail, and maintaining office supplies.
- Organize and schedule meetings, conferences, and appointments for medical staff.
- **Collaboration**:

- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth workflow.
- Collaborate with other administrative staff to optimize departmental efficiency.
- **Compliance**:

- Adhere to healthcare regulations and maintain a high standard of confidentiality.
- Stay informed about changes in medical office procedures and policies.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in healthcare administration is a plus.
- Proven experience as a medical secretary or in a similar administrative role, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Proficient in medical terminology and knowledge of medical office procedures.
- Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.

**Salary**: £14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday

**Education**:

- GCSE or equivalent (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Medical Receptionist: 1 year (preferred)

Ability to Commute:

- Birmingham (required)

Ability to Relocate:
