This is an exciting opportunity to join the multidisciplinary team of the Spinal Cord Injury service. The SCI population at NUH comprises traumatic and non-traumatic causes. The service is commissioned by NHSE and comprises a nurse lead/coordinator, 3 band 7s (nurse/AHPs), and the clinical psychologist. The purpose of this post is to contribute to the care and rehabilitation of adults with SCI by providing a highly specialised clinical psychology service as part of the overall MDT.

The position is well supported and would access clinical supervision from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist within the context of the broader Psychology service at NUH. The post holder will also contribute to departmental activities, including research and clinical governance as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

This purpose of this post is to provide a specialist clinical psychology assessment and intervention service for adults with SCI. This post represents an exciting opportunity and challenge for the post holder.

The SCI population at NUH comprises traumatic and non-traumatic causes (mostly traumatic) and the new service/psychology role will service both. The service is commissioned by NHSE and comprises a nurse lead/coordinator, 3 band 7s (nurse/AHPs), and the clinical psychologist.

The post holder will provide a highly specialised clinical psychology service to adults with SCI on the basis of advanced theoretical and practical knowledge acquired through a degree, postgraduate doctoral degree (or equivalent) and additional specialist training.

The post holder will provide assessment and therapeutic intervention.

The post holder will be responsible, where appropriate and in collaboration with the Head of SCI and Director of Psychology for the planning, delivery and evaluation of Clinical Psychology Services for SCI.

To participate in clinical governance for Clinical Psychology and SCI services.

To be accountable for his/her own professional actions as a specialist for Clinical Psychology services.

To assist as appropriate in the event of a Major Incident.

This post does not have any budgetary or line management responsibility.

The post holder may also hold responsibilities for clinical psychologists in training or assistant psychologists once the post is fully estabilshed and the support and training of staff from other disciplines who work with the same patient group (e.g. Medics, Nursing, OT, PT).

The post will be based at Queens Medical Centre Campus and occasionally City Hospital Campus, Nottingham University Hospitals. There may also be a requirement for remote clinics in surrounding healthcare settings.

Working days must include those on which SCI team and MDT meetings are held, in order to attend essential meetings on those days.

Essential criteria
- Post-graduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS.
- HCPC registration

Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

Experience

Essential criteria
- Work as a qualified Clinical Psychologist
- Experience of helping people with acquired physical disability
- Experience of providing care to patients in an acute hospital setting
- Experience of working directly, indirectly, as part of an MDT and on a consultative basis
- Experience of providing supervision
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for patients’ psychological care and treatment.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
- Experience of carrying out research

Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with adults with spinal cord injury
- Experience of bio-psycho-social models of care

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
