THE OFFICE OF THE GENERAL COUNSELTEAM

The OGC team comprises 35 lawyers and other team members. It acts as the internal legal function of the Firm, overseeing regulatory compliance in the United Kingdom and overseas and supporting the business in analysing legal risk for the Firm in the work it undertakes. The team has a number of sub-teams that handle claims and complaints, oversee negotiation of the Firm's professional indemnity and other insurances, manage conflicts, manage our financial crime and sanctions compliance, negotiate the terms that govern key client relationships, are involved in strategic activity and support the Firm's board.

This role is a Lawyer/Practitioner in the Data Protection sub-team, with a particular focus on data protection, cyber and information security, commercial negotiations and incident management. The role will involve supporting the Firm's offices across the globe (present and future).

DUTIES OF THE ROLE?

Working closely with the Senior Lawyer, Data Protection, and colleagues from across OGC, you will play an important role in a broad range of data protection matters and contribute to the wider OGC team objectives.

Data Protection

Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIA) for proposed new processing or changes to processing (such as the introduction of new software) and:
identify higher risk proposals for escalation;
provide advice and support to Business Services teams on the implementation of PIA recommendations/requirements, including, for example, advice to Procurement on any contractual terms to put in place with a processor;
spot other regulatory issues connected to the proposal that may need input from the wider OGC team (not necessarily relating to personal data);
conduct audits to check for compliance against the PIA outcomes.
Participate in third party audits (by clients, regulators and independent auditors), including compiling and presenting evidence for onsite visits, and drafting responses to written questionnaires;
Support on the development and delivery of training, both in-person and eLearning;
