As a qualified Therapist, you will support patients at Step 3, offering face-to-face assessment and treatment sessions, and facilitating group therapy sessions. You will work in liaison with the Integrated Mental Health Team. You will also have opportunity to actively participate in different projects and workstreams.

The post holder will work at HMP Huntercombe which is a prison housing foreign-national prisoners. Some will have complex, severe and enduring mental health disorders and serious risk behaviour, and also complex trauma responses. In course of their work, the post holder will encounter a range of presenting problems, including psychosis, personality difficulties, self-harm, challenging behaviour, substance misuse, complex emotional dysfunction (depression, anxiety, anger), PTSD, violence, sexual violence, cognitive deficits (including impairments of intellectual, memory and executive function), severe interpersonal problems and social disabilities. Histories of risk, antisocial and offending behaviour are possible. Many clients will have difficulties arising from physical, sexual and emotional abuse. The post holder will also work with the client’s support networks, including care staff and family members.

Undertakes highly specialist assessments of complex cases, assessing personality, beliefs, attitudes, behaviour, emotional function, and other relevant psychological characteristics and dimensions and factors relevant to the development, maintenance and understanding of the client’s difficulties as appropriate, using standardized psychometric instruments, protocol based assessment tools, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and structured and semi-structured interviews as required. Utilises assessment techniques
directly with clients and collects information from family members and others involved in the client’s care as appropriate.
