Lecturer in Sustainable Fashion

Kingston upon Thames, United Kingdom Kingston University Full time

You will plan, deliver, and assess a range of modules teaching inspirational alternatives to sustainable fashion practices and systems using a variety of technologies and approaches to deliver a vibrant education to your students at PG/UG level, that can be translated into real-world skills.

Research is, naturally, a key part of our make-up and you’ll supervise students if applicable and undertake your own research challenges, seeing projects through their entire lifecycle - from developing proposals to producing outputs ripe for publication.

Working side-by-side with talented colleagues you’ll share knowledge and expertise through professional consultancy, pursuing opportunities that will enhance the course and the University’s reputation and support students with valuable placement opportunities wherever possible.

**The Person**:
You’ll be working towards or achieved a doctorate or hold a master’s degree in an associated field. Your expertise could be in fashion theory with an ethnographic focus on ethics in fashions value chain, on digital and technological innovation from blockchain to Clo-3d, bio-design and new materials, to alternative business models and transformational systems.

If you haven’t already achieved a recognised teaching or learning qualification or the relevant level of UKPSF recognition, we’ll need you to do so before the end of your probation period.

On a personal level, going above and beyond to deliver exceptional teaching and support to our students will be your core motivation. You will use your experience of working in Sustainable fashion to promote integrated professional practice across everything you do, imparting new ideas as it pertains to fashion instruction from a social, cultural, environmental, and ethical perspective, giving knowledge to students that they will take with them in their future careers.

Constantly seeking to improve, you’ll scrutinise your own work, build private and public sector networks, and work collaboratively to enhance the faculty’s reputation in higher education and occupational circles.

**The Faculty**:
**Kingston School of Art - The Design School**

Tomorrow’s designers need to be able to think critically and act practically. They are required to be insightful and creative to meet new challenges in a strategic,

ambitious and entrepreneurial manner. The Design School is committed to creative rigour in the context of design education, practice, research and enterprise. It is a critically engaged community of design practitioners, educators, researchers and entrepreneurs.

The Design School is made up of the Department of 3D Design, Department of Fashion, Department of Graphics and the Department of Illustration and Animation. The School attracts five applicants for every student place and enjoys world-wide recognition.

**Further information**:
This is a part-time permanent role working 29.6 hours per week, with a starting salary of £34,549.60 (80% to £43,187) per annum.

Interviews will be held on Monday 11th September 2023.

For informal enquiries please contact Tony Bednall, Head of Department of Fashion.
