**Salary**:
**Lecturer Grade F**: £32,348 to £42,155 per annum

**Lecturer Grade G**: £43,414 to £51,805 per annum

**Senior Lecturer**: £53,353 to £61,823 per annum

The Role

We are seeking an excellent researcher and dedicated educator who will strengthen and complement our existing expertise and promote links with other schools, disciplines or Newcastle University Centres of Research Excellence (NUCores), in line with the university strategy to build strong cohesion across its broad disciplinary base.

Research in pure mathematics within the school is focused on algebra and analysis (including geometric group theory, representation theory, complex analysis and functional analysis). You will be able to connect to aspects of our existing research portfolio at the same time as adding a distinctive new perspective.

You will be involved in the undergraduate teaching on the BSc and MMath programs offered by the school and will deliver innovative teaching and assessment methods, providing an overall excellent student experience and will actively contribute to all aspects of the school.

You should have a PhD in mathematics and a developing or established research record in pure mathematics evidenced by high-quality publications in leading international journals. In addition, you should have strong communication skills and a passionate commitment to teaching excellence.

Key Accountabilities
You will be expected to
Carry out internationally recognised research in pure mathematics leading to publications in highly regarded journals
Develop grant-funded research projects
Build collaborative links with other members of the school and wider institution
Undertake teaching in our undergraduate BSc and MMath programs
Contribute to the development of the curriculum and innovative assessment methods
Supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers
Contribute to the life and work of the school in general and to the pure mathematics section in particular
Carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Head of School and the School Executive Board

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential for Lecturer (Grade F/G)
A track record of high-quality research in an area of pure mathematics which strengthens or complements existing research in the School.
Experience of presenting work to the national/international research community at conferences, workshops and seminars.
Awareness of the current research within the pure mathematics section and an ability to view own research in this wider context.
Demonstrable ability to effectively teach at university level.
Ability to supervise postgraduate students and post-doctoral researchers.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable for Lecturer (Grade F/G)
Ability to promote research links with other Schools and disciplines.
Essential for Senior Lecturer (Grade H)
All of the essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience for Lecturer (Grade F/G) and in addition
International standing and recognition in the field as evidenced by a sustained record of publications in outstanding journals and other esteem indicators.
A track record of securing external research funding commensurate with career stage.
Evidence of a sustained track record of excellent teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Experience of successful supervision of postgraduate students.
A record of successful service and leadership and the ability to contribute to the organisational and academic management of the school including line managerial responsibilities.
