The Role

The main purpose of this role within Population Health Sciences Institute (PHSI) is to lead and further develop research and teaching in behavioural sciences.

You will also be expected to contribute to teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and positively contribute to the wider academic, scholarly, and professional requirements of the Institute and the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University.

Key Accountabilities
To lead and further develop behavioural sciences research, collaborating across research themes and colleagues in PHSI
To work independently and take a lead in developing and submitting research proposals to external funders; manage research, ensuring the projects are within budget, meet milestones and the deadlines for completion
To demonstrate expertise and academic leadership with a view to supporting and developing academic researchers, collaborators, and postgraduate students in PHSI, including mentoring, and developing Early Career Researchers
To create and maintain strong collaborative links with colleagues based in the Institute, Faculty, University, and external partners (national and international)
To publish high quality research outputs and to present at national and international conferences
To lead and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment; supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and postgraduate research students
To produce research and activities that leads to societal impact
To carry out other management and administrative tasks within PHSI, the Faculty and the University as required by line manager and Institute Dean

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Demonstrable ability to publish high quality research outputs relating to behavioural sciences
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a wide range of stakeholders (including academic and non-academic audiences)
Expertise in the design and conduct of research including all aspects of research ethics, good research practice, and research governance
Knowledge, ability, and expertise to lead and contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision
Evidence of collaborative inter-disciplinary and cross-sector working and engagement with national or international research and policy networks or institutions
Experience of leadership and citizenship roles commensurate with career stage and pathway
Desirable
Experience of supervising and mentoring

**Qualifications**:
PhD related to behavioural sciences (in any relevant discipline e.g., health sciences, psychology, health and social policy)

Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or equivalent qualification for teaching in UK Higher Education

Experience of supervising research projects at undergraduate and Masters level, and PhD/Prof Doc/MD supervision
Experience of supervising and/or mentoring early career researchers
Evidence of collaborative inter-disciplinary and cross-sector working and strong record of engagement with national or international research and policy networks or institutions to create research impact
Experience of leadership and citizenship roles commensurate with career stage and pathway
Experience of supervising and mentoring
