The Role

The Biosciences Institute seeks to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Regenerative Medicine.

Newcastle University is a world-class research-intensive university that aims to provide an outstanding educational experience to its students. Newcastle University’s Biosciences Institute (NUBI) hosts a multi-disciplinary community of researchers who are focussed on the fundamental biology of life to obtain mechanistic understanding of human diseases and improve human health. NUBI harbours state-of-the-art facilities including specialised suites for stem cell expansion, GMP facilities, cutting edge single cell sequencing, imaging, animal, flow cytometry and mass spectrometry core facilities.

You will be expected to deliver active programmes of research and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision within the School of Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences. You will take on leadership roles as appropriate, including mentoring of other colleagues, curriculum development and engagement activities.

Key Accountabilities
To consistently publish your research in peer-reviewed publications at a 3* level, with significant contribution at the 4* level
To disseminate research findings through national and international conferences and other avenues
To attract funding for research from a range of peer reviewed external sources
To contribute towards the development and running of cutting-edge research projects
Contribute to the strategic development and implementation of regenerative medicine in the Regenerative Medicine Stem Cells and Transplantation Research Theme, the Institute and Faculty
To lead and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment; supervise undergraduate and master’s dissertations and postgraduate research students in microbiology and related areas, providing pastoral support and guidance when needed
Develop and sustain an independent research group that operates with a collaborative team-science ethic and in which all team members are recognised and rewarded for their contributions and are provided the opportunity for career advancement
Promote a research culture that encourages and celebrates a rich diversity in its workforce and that upholds the highest standards for its research integrity, data reproducibility and collaborative spirit
To undertake other duties as deemed necessary, including participation in relevant Institute, Faculty and University committees and activities as detailed by the Institute Dean

The Person

**Senior Lecturer Level Appointment**:
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Strong background in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine
Experience of presenting findings at national and international conferences
A demonstrated ability to undertake independent research and to work as part of a multidisciplinary research team to successfully deliver research projects
Knowledge of the processes of conduct and dissemination of scientific research, including understanding of how to make research open, reproducible, robust and ethical, according to protocols and principles of Good Research Practice
Evidence of carrying out research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and producing research to an appropriate standard
Evidence of standing at national/international level and recognition in the discipline
Experience of setting up University spin our companies and developing collaborative research with the pharma/biotech sector
A proven track record in securing funding from competitive funding organisations (e.g., research councils, charities, pharma/biotech) as PI and/or in collaboration with others (as co-investigator)
A proven track record in conducting and publishing high-quality research in peer reviewed internationally recognised journals
Experience of the successful leadership, management, supervision and mentoring of more junior colleagues and postgraduate research students
Experience in the supervision of under-, and/or post-graduate dissertation students
Experience of teaching stem cell, regenerative medicine and/or extracellular vesicle at under-, and/or post-graduate level
