On behalf of the South West Peatland Partnership, South West Water are delighted that we have successfully secured funding from Natural England’s Nature for Climate Peatlands Restoration scheme which is made up of regional and local organisations to restore 2,634 hectares of damaged peatland in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, saving a total of 652,625 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. As we move into this exciting new phase, you’ll be joining us as we enter a time of innovation, creativity and vision. This is a tremendous opportunity and the projects you will be working on can only add value and help preserve the future of our natural environment.

We currently have an opportunity available for a
**Farm Advisor **to join our team working in
** Exeter or Okehampton, with a hybrid working arrangement**. You will join us on a
**part-time, fixed term contract until 2025,** and in return, you will receive a salary of
**£28,000 - £30,000 per annum pro rata **plus benefits.

**About the role**:
In this role you will use your knowledge on ecology and agricultural systems to help drive the delivery of improvements in environment land management, whilst using your communication skills to help influence positive environment change when liaising with stakeholders on farming practises and relevant agricultural and peatland restoration techniques. Your ability to build trust and respect will help encourage a positive shift in agricultural practises and educate a variety of stakeholders.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Carrying out targeted landowner advisory visits with the production of a follow-up Mires Restoration Plan or report containing solutions and advice.
- Ensuring Mires Team are fully up to speed with changes in agricultural practices, policies and legislation, and lead on working with RPA in regards schemes and peatland restoration
- Working with other staff within the Mires team to negotiate and enable delivery of peatland management to meet Green Recovery and Nature for Climate objectives
- Working with South West Peatland Partnership Mires Restoration Officers, Monitoring Officers etc as part of the catchment delivery team to identify and implement monitoring in regards farming practices and systems in regards peatland management
- Managing the Chains NoFence project with the landowner and tenants.
- Carrying out follow up/implementation/care & maintenance visits ensuring peatland improvements are continued in the long term and assess the impacts on farming
- Frequently and accurately recording all outputs on project databases (including GIS mapping) and assisting the Mires Manager in the production of reports and the South West Peatland Partnership Comms with publicity material
- Assisting/contributing to the production of landowner newsletters and social media publicity
- Having a strong understanding of the catchment in terms of both risk and opportunity for peatland restoration and environmental management and use this strategic understanding to target interventions
- Ensuring that advice to landowners complies with guidance on a wide range of agricultural legislation and codes of practice, ranging from Cross Compliance, and Soil Protection Reviews to Pesticides & NVZs, Water Framework Directive and Protected Sites & Species legislation
- Working closely with National Parks, Councils, Natural England, UST partners, Catchment Sensitive Farming officers & EA advisors

- An environmental advocate who is naturally passionate about sustainable land management.
- Degree qualification in Agriculture, or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field of agriculture/ environment/land management
- Excellent communicator with proven track record in developing strong working relationships with farmers, landowners and their representatives
