- Job description- Would you like to create a better place for people and the environment? Asset Performance perform an essential role in ensuring our flood risk assets are maintained to the required standard and ensuring people and property are protected from flooding.
As technical lead, you will play a key role to ensure our flood risk assets are reliable and resilient. You will be involved in the whole life of a river system, creating new structures, asset maintenance, inspection, reviewing the asset’s performance through to potential decommissioning/replacement. You will be capable of prioritising your own workload, and ensuring we comply with legal requirements and internal policy.
Our assets include penstocks, flood walls, embankments, reservoirs, gates, trash screens, culverts and bridges as well as routine river maintenance. This is a varied role to include data and financial management; specification and review of works; responding to enquiries from members of the public, politicians and senior management; act as senior user on our capital projects; comprehensive asset maintenance; liaison with public and professional organisations.
The role includes a good mix of office, home-based and site work, working in partnership and maintaining productive relationships with our field teams, external contractors, risk management authorities, and partner regulators/advisors.
You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment depending on the role and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- Our Asset Performance teams are responsible for the overall performance of flood and coastal erosion risk management assets. We ensure all assets are inspected, maintained and operated in a safe, efficient and effective manner to assure the safety of the public and reduce flood risk for people and property. Our team comprises a mix of civil engineers, incident leads, asset inspectors, geographical leads and technical support.
- Experience/skills required- We're seeking a self-motivated individual who can manage multiple priorities and competing demands. You will be an excellent communicator and must also understand the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Just as important is your energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn combined with the ability to solve problems.
Other key requirements for this role include proficiency in data and information management to make evidence based decisions; undertaking work in accordance with health and safety and environmental regulations; ability to coach and mentor others; and ability to deliver results through others.
Desirable
- Experience of contract, asset or flood risk management
- Experience of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
- Formal qualifications in civil engineering, project management (e.g. PRINCE2)
- Data and information management (e.g. GIS)

You will be offered comprehensive induction/training and will be given the time and space to learn while doing the role.
