Fleet Training and Technical Manager Job Summary
This role works in close collaboration with the Head of Fleet Operations to ensure crew are fully trained and certified. This will ensure the safety and great customer experience of our passengers.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
o Experienced Marine professional with Boat Masters Licence
o Proven track record of teaching marine syllabus
o Experience of working under MCA regulations
o Experience in leadership, mentoring or coaching staff/crew
o Qualified to deliver ISM training
o Knowledge of the High Speed Craft Code Desirable
o Public Transport System knowledge
o STCW qualification
o Knowledge of the Boat Masters syllabus
o Project Management experience
o Passenger Ferry or High Speed operations experience
Fleet Training and Technical Manager Key Responsibilities
o To ensure all Thames Clippers staff working afloat receives appropriate training to adequately perform in their roles
o To maintain and develop the training matrix for all operational staff, ensuring all statutory requirements are met, certification is maintained, any training needs are identified and a timely training solution is delivered
o Create, maintain and deliver the statutory training programmes of all afloat staff employed to work on Thames Clippers vessels, this includes but is not limited to STCW, ISM, the High Speed Craft code and Boatmasters Licence (BML) training and Bridge Resource Management training programmes
o Identify supplementary and developmental training needs for all staff within the Fleet Operations team and in conjunction with the Director of People and Culture and Head of Fleet Operations, create a training plan to meet identified needs and support with the further develop our Learning Management System (LMS)
o Support recruitment and probation periods of all new starters within the Fleet Operations teams
o To support the implementation and delivery of customer service based training to improve the overall customer experience
o Work closely with the rostering team to coordinate and manage all training activities and requests in a timely manner
o In conjunction with the Head of Fleet Operations, create, develop and implement new and engaging training content and materials, with particular emphasis on e-learning and 2 development of our LMS o Designing and delivering Type Rating Training for all classes of vessel in the fleet, assisting with the coaching and mentoring of all crew
o Develop our drills training offering o To update the relevant budget holder(s) as appropriate so that adequate provision is made for training and development in the annual business planning and budgeting process
o To monitor and maintain the operational training budget for the Fleet Operations team o To ensure that HR legislation and training best practice are adhered to in line with policy and procedures
o To build productive and mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders, both internally (HODs) and externally (contractors, local regulatory authorities and educational institutions).
o To liaise with operational managers to ensure adequate resources are available to deliver training
o Maintain all training related records and collateral, ensuring Management Information is produced in good time for monthly reporting
o To identify and manage external training providers to ensure training requirements are met in a cost efficient manner, in conjunction with the Director of People and Culture
o To support operational managers with the selection process for new team members working afloat and with progression and development of staff into higher ranks
o To contribute to the internal SMS auditing of the fleet, forming part of the internal audit team
o To work on board our vessels as a Master as and when required, assisting the Fleet Operations team with the maneuvering of vessels demonstrating best practice to the team
o Ensure that you comply with all Health and Safety regulations and safe working practice as required by current legislation and the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and practices
o Ensure that all relevant information is communicated speedily and accurately in a way that ensures that the information is received and easily understood

You’ll be based in head office at Clipper House, Trinity Buoy Wharf, Poplar, London E14 0JY, a short walk from Canning Town tube or a hop across the river on our staff boat, from North Greenwich tube
