To support the Chief Nurse/Executive Director of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and Quality to ensure they meet their contractual, quality, safety, and financial requirements. This is to ensure safe, compassionate, responsive, effective, caring, and well-led care is provided to patients and their carers at all times. To provide visible, compassionate and values led senior leadership and support throughout the organisation including specific focus within the Nursing, AHP and Quality Directorate so that staff remain highly motivated, passionate, proud, resilient and well equipped to provide excellent/outstanding care.

The post holder will be a senior visible leader to drive forward (with the Chief Nurse) a compelling vision for Nursing and Allied Health Professionals across our organisation, and make sure all our nurses and AHPs have a voice in decision making and can feel proud of the care they deliver.

The post holder will work with other professions so that a multi professional leadership approach and vision is embedded across the organisation to ensure that high quality compassionate care is delivered, whilst making sure each profession maintains their identity, sense of belonging and passion for the profession.

Main duties of the job

Specific portfolio responsibilities will include:-

  • Deputising for the Chief Nurse/Executive Director of Nursing, AHPs and Quality as required
  • Patient safety
  • Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
  • Clinical investigations
  • Safeguarding
  • Professional leadership of nursing and AHPs across the organisation

Working in conjunction with the Chief Nurse, the post holder will ensure the implementation of the Quality Framework, implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and contribute to the implementation of the retention plans for workforce particularly nursing and AHPs.

The post holder will also work with the Chief Nurse to ensure the development and implementation of NHFT's safeguarding vision and strategy which will enable the organisation to fulfil its statutory duties in relation to safeguarding children and adults.

The post holder will also work with the Chief Nurse and Improvement Director to implement and embed continuous quality improvement principles and working practices across the organisation and into the Northamptonshire system. The Deputy Director of Nursing, AHPs and Quality will have line management responsibilities, budget holder responsibilities and carry out on call duties as part of the senior on call rota.

  • Registered Nursing/AHP qualification and experience in a Senior Clinical /Operational role
  • Educated to master's level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in a specialist area
  • Member of a relevant professional body
  • Significant management experience at senior level in the NHS or other public healthcare related industry
