Our School Nurses are qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN) who aim to meet the health needs of children and young people between the ages of 4-19. We work in schools, clinics and home settings carrying out a range of activities and interventions where a need has been identified. As a SCPHN we aim to identify local need within our population and implement changes to meet these health needs alongside building community capacity. We support vulnerable families and children within the safeguarding arena and work closely with other professionals to ensure that their needs are met. We cover a large geographical area and work as part of a skill mix team where you will work alongside Health Visitors, Community Nurses, Nursery Nurses, Healthy Child Practitioners and School Nurse Assistants. As a clinical specialist and a leader in the skill mixed team you will triage new referrals, complete and delegate clinical assessments and short term interventions covering a range of wellbeing needs for children young people and families, including:
Safeguarding

Sexual Health and Healthy Relationships
You will offer drop-in clinics at secondary schools and use the themes emerging from those contacts with young people to inform and influence the school in relation to emerging needs, risks and opportunities for health improvement.
As a key safeguarding professional you will form effective partnerships and relationships with colleagues across the safeguarding MDT.
As a leader in your team you will support the training and development of new staff and students and support the continual development of the 0-19 service so that we can achieve our aims of helping children, young people and families to thrive. You will be required to offer clinical supervision to your team and be will required to complete additional training in order to provide safeguarding supervision to all staff across the Trust who work with children.
NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community.
