In this role you will provide clinical leadership to the nursing team, working closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for ensuring patients are discharged safely.This role would suit a senior band 5 who is looking for a career progression and a new challenge and can demonstrate some experience with ward management. You should be able to demonstrate a good range of experience evidence that you have skills in the coordination of care, typically through Nurse in Charge or Shift Leader Competencies.


Alongside an internal leadership development program we also link with local Universities and the East Midlands and NHS Leadership Academy. We actively encourage continual professional development and the implementation of new ideas which promote excellent patient care. In this role you will provide clinical leadership to the nursing team, working closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for ensuring patients are discharged safely.You will support the ward sister and other Deputy sisters in the ward environment and the surgical managementteam. You will beexpected to undertake quality improvement initiatives, roster management, complete incidents and othermanagement tasks as required

Demonstrates anunderstanding of relevant admission & discharge pathways and their relationship with high quality,safe care Promotes and prioritises appropriate operational patient flow through ward area in a timely patientadmission / transfer and use of discharge lounge documentation Communicates and escalates operational & safety risks appropriately e.g. Lead Nurse, Discharge team,Clinical Operational team Champion patient centred care planning ensuring staff understand their role in building relationshipswith individual patients and accept the Key Nurse role Uphold NMC code and standards, includingrecord keeping and medicines management Ensure that care is coordinated across all professions for the benefit of patient experience


Ensure that all staff know how to escalate concerns in practice regarding risk, e.g. a patient with delirium whois at risk of falling. Facilitate effective admission and discharge processes including the use of Medway, Effectively supports the Practice Improvement Facilitators in sharing best practice messages with theteam and embedding change Enable staff to discuss the potential for the implementation of safeguarding processes MCA, DoLs andBest interests and support them in the use of these as required. Maintains a database for recording and evidencing the competence and qualifications of staff to understand individual requirements 3 Develops processes that supports the identification of individuals learning needs and identifies howthis learning can be attained Actively engage in training needs analysis to support commissioning of education an work withcolleagues to devise in house programmes to deliver training and education as necessary To be proactive in developing strategies that will develop and retain staff Actively engage in taught programs including extended induction for nurses and healthcareassistants


Ensure that staff attend training and that non-attendance, non-submission of assignmentsis effectively managed Where staff are undertaking external education programmes ensure that they are effectivelysupported, attendance managed, and they apply their learning to practice share their learning withothers In confidence with the Ward Sister facilitate and evidence that clinical supervision is in place in practiceAct as a mentor and clinical supervisor and work alongside staff in practice to provide effectivefeedback on practice to inform learning
