We are working exclusively with a prominent player in the rail rolling stock industry who are looking for a Head of Operations (Driving Standards), reporting into the Director of Safety.


They specialise in the movement, testing and storage of stock for rolling stock and train operating companies, as well as locomotive spot hire services and the operation of charter trains.


The Head of Operations will be responsible for driver training, compliance and driver safety, maintaining a competent and professional workforce to ensure the safe and effective delivery of services, whilst developing best in class training and assessment material to drive standards.


You’ll play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining operational excellence and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the Operations team at this forward thinking client.


The business has pioneered and own the UK’s most advanced locomotive fleet, currently being delivered and tested for this first in class locomotive in the UK.


The Head of Operations will also deliver key updates to cover changes relating to standards and legislation, track the performance of driving staff relating to training, assessments and incidents; and develop monitoring plans to ensure high standards of driving skill and knowledge are maintained.


The post holds the 'Professional Head of Operations' status.

The experience we’re looking for:


  • Certification or accreditation in relevant areas such as driver training, safety management, or quality assurance is desirable
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations effectively
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and empower drivers to achieve excellence
  • Extensive experience in rail operations, with a focus on driver management, safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver training programmes, conduct audits, and implement continuous improvement initiatives
