Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for the strategic delivery of operations at EMR, ensuring our Drivers and Resources teams deliver a safe, reliable railway that delights our customers.

**As Head of Operations, you will**:

- Have overall responsibility for leading the Driver function and resources department, to deliver a safe reliable railway, ensuring that key KPIs are achieved.
- Be accountable and responsible for Driver performance ensuring the Driver Management team achieve the highest possible Safety and Operating standards at all times.
- Provide strategic leadership to the Resources team to ensure the availability of train-crew meets the delivery plan, and robust processes and arrangements are in place to mitigate risk to service during periods of significant disruption.
- Have overall responsibility for operational performance, service delivery and risk mitigation plans.
- Ensure the development of the appropriate operational, safety, customer experience and commercial policies and procedures affecting the Driver function and resource teams are optimal and fit for purpose
- Drive continuous improvement and cultural change to ensure the department displays the company values and behaviours to drive a passion and culture to keep customer experience at the centre of all activities and service delivery decisions.
- Lead and effectively develop relationships with ASLEF to benefit the achievement of operational performance.
- Develop and maintain effective and productive working relationships with senior representatives of industry partners and regulatory bodies such as Network Rail, the Rail Delivery Group, the Office of Rail and Road and Abellio.
- Deputise to the Operations Director, covering the roles and responsibilities of the Operations Director role during periods of leave and non-availability.

- Educated to a Degree standard, and/or equivalent quantifiable experience in a comparable role
- An excellent and inspirational leader able to communicate a clear vision and lead a high performing team
- Strong at influencing people at all levels
- Passionate for service delivery and have exceptionally high standards
- Able to lead in continuous improvement by driving a culture that generates motivation and learning through coaching and mentoring.
- Experienced and knowledgeable in railway operations with an understanding of Network Rail and Industry standards including statutory legislation.
- An analytical thinker able to translate KPI information including risks and opportunities to principal stakeholders
- Able and willing to hold/obtain and maintain contingency competencies in line with the company dispute contingency plan
