About the role:


The Head of Admissions - part of the senior management team within the Registry and reporting directly to the Director of Student and Academic Services - leads the delivery and development of the University's admissions function and ensures it is responsive to the needs of diverse UK and international applicants in a competitive recruitment environment, across its undergraduate, postgraduate, apprenticeship and online programmes.

You will enable the University to meet its student recruitment targets by delivering a seamless applicant journey and instil a culture of continuous improvement by providing a customer-centred, data-driven and compliant service.


Principal accountabilities:

  • Lead the admissions team, ensuring they have the knowledge, training and support to deliver a customercentred service that is compliant with relevant regulations.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications department to develop and deliver a seamless experience to applicants and evolve our services to meet changing customer expectations and needs.
  • Provide management information and analysis to inform decision making; this includes working with colleagues from Strategic Insights and Planning and the Director of External Relations, to develop recommendations, updates and reports to inform the University's strategic decision making, for example by making recommendations to senior managers on offer and tariff strategies.
  • Proactively develop strong, collaborative working relationships with internal stakeholders; share your expertise with colleagues across The Registry and Marketing and Communications, academic departments and the relevant professional services departments.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the regulatory and legal environment, policy and good practice which impact admissions; continue to develop professional network and involvement with relevant organisations; ensure that all admissions activities comply with relevant policies and regulations, for example, OfS, UKVI, UCAS, GDPR, CMA.
  • Responsible for ensuring that our admissions are compliant with UKVI and OfS requirements, for example by setting admissions requirements for partnership arrangements and conducting periodic audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Contribute toclearing and confirmation operations, ensuring the necessary resources are in place to deliver an efficient and effective service that meets the needs of applicants and the University.
  • Ensure the admissions service is robust, flexible, scalable and able to respond to peak demands within the recruitment cycle by anticipating demand, embedding a flexible operating model, and overseeing the recruitment, training and induction of temporary and volunteer staff around peak periods.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Digital Solutions and Services to ensure that our digital services and platforms are maintained and improved to meet the needs of prospective students, both UK and international.
  • Work closely with the International Compliance Manager to ensure that the admissions service meets the needs of international applicants and agents.
  • Work with colleagues in Student Recruitment, Marketing and DARO (Development and Alumni Relations Officer) to ensure that effective scholarships are in place and are marketed in an appropriate and timely manner to ensure they support student recruitment at all levels; ensure processes and procedures for scholarships are efficient, fair and transparent.
  • In collaboration with others in The Registry Senior Leadership Team, deliver a seamless customer experience, ensure overall strategic objectives are met and nurture a datadriven, customerfocused culture which empowers staff to do their best.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and role model the University's values of bold, brilliant, futurefocused and valuing people.
  • Manage the budget for admissions, under the direction of the Director of Student and Academic Services.
  • Undertake such duties or projects as determined by the Director commensurate with the grading of this role
