An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Suffolk County Council (SCC) Suffolk Therapeutic Fostering Team as a Family Support Practitioner  working from Saxon House Ipswich, but you may have to visit the NHS premises at Airey Close, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft. The role is county wide so the applicant must be willing to travel.

Are you empowered by being able to see and feel positive change? We are looking for people like you, who share the same care, support, and dedication as we do.

We were recognised as one of leading social work authorities in the UK, whose children’s services are rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, "Services for children are of an exceptionally high standard. They are child-focused and make a positive difference to children's lives." (Ofsted, 2019). We have a well embedded practice framework to enable meaningful family focused help. ‘Signs of Safety’ enables us to do this respectfully and in collaboration with all the families, colleagues, and organisations we are working with.

Your role and responsibilities

The Suffolk Therapeutic fostering (STF) coaches are part of Suffolk’s Therapeutic Fostering team and contribute to the therapeutic relationship between carers, children, and professionals. You can expect to be an integral part of a multi-agency team working with clinical psychologists, social workers, course trainers and facilitators, and other family support practitioners. The aim of STF Coaching is to enable a young person to engage in a programme of coaching sessions that will lead to them developing self-coaching skills. The focus is very much on moving forward and achieving goals and in doing so increasing self-esteem, self-confidence, self-belief and self-worth in young people.

STF Coaching involves identifying and working towards achieving goals that the young person has generated, accepted and feels motivated by. The role of the skills coach is to guide the young person on this journey, and to provide goal focused, flexible and child-centred support.

There will be opportunities to contribute to the expansion and further developments within the team.

If you are looking for a new challenge and are passionate about improving the outcome for children, this may be the role for you.
