The British Geological Survey (BGS) have an exciting opportunity for a Non-Executive Director to join its board to ensure BGS carries out its activities in line with the NERC/UKRI g o vernance framework, ensuring high quality organisational governance. You will bring your sector experience and exceptional knowledge to provide constructive support and challenge to the BGS Director and Senior M anagement B oard , as well as o ffering support and advice on key issues and policies as needed. Acting as an a dvocate for BGS, you will actively participate in planning and evaluation activities as well as ad-hoc assignments .

About you

Applications are sought from qualified chartered or management accountants with a demonstrable senior level track record in a strategic finance role in the UK public or private sector. You should be able to e vidence significant project delivery at board level in sectors of broad relevance to the work of the BGS , and provision of strategic financial advice and leadership at a senior level, with an ability to exercise judgement across a broad spectrum of policy issues.

About The British Geological Survey (BGS)

The British Geological Survey (BGS) is an applied geoscience research centre that is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and affiliated to the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). It is a world leading geological survey that provides a core science mission to inform government of science related to the subsurface and its interfaces and also undertakes applied research for solutions to earth and environmental processes, both in the UK and globally. It is funded directly by UKRI as well as through research grants and via private sector contracts.

BGS has an annual budget of approximately £60 million and employs 650 people. It has two main sites, a head office in Keyworth near Nottingham and the Lyell Centre, which is a joint collaboration with Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. BGS works with more than 150 private sector organisations as well as having close links with 40 universities and sponsors approximately 100 PhD students each year.
