The British Geological Survey (BGS) is seeking a Non-Executive Director to contribute to its board, ensuring that BGS operates in accordance with the governance framework established by NERC/UKRI, while maintaining exemplary organizational governance.

Your extensive sector experience and profound expertise will be essential in providing constructive support and critical evaluation to the BGS Director and Senior Management Board. You will also offer guidance on significant issues and policies as required.

As an advocate for BGS, your role will involve active participation in planning and evaluation initiatives, as well as undertaking ad-hoc assignments.

BGS operates as a research center under the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

UKRI serves as a non-departmental public body, supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and integrates seven disciplinary research councils, Research England, and Innovate UK to enhance the UK's research and innovation landscape.

As part of NERC, BGS addresses critical challenges related to environmental, economic, and societal sustainability. Candidate Profile


We invite applications from qualified chartered or management accountants who possess a proven senior-level track record in strategic finance roles within the UK public or private sectors.

Applicants should demonstrate significant project delivery experience at the board level in sectors relevant to BGS's work, alongside the provision of strategic financial guidance and leadership at a senior level, showcasing the ability to exercise sound judgment across a wide range of policy matters.
