Sustainability Business Specialist

Location: Derby, Birmingham or Wolverhampton (Hybrid)

Appointment Basis: 18 month Fixed Term Contract

Salary: c.£45K + Benefits (Dependent on Experience)

Could you be the Sustainability Business Specialist to develop standardised frameworks across the sites, project manage initiatives, champion best practices and learnings, monitoring progress against targets and communicating outcomes?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge by being based within the Midlands and apply your Sustainability Business Specialist expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You'll report to Rebecca Taylor (Sustainability Manager UK&I, Services), and work alongside a dedicated and passionate team across our UK&I sites and functions to implement Alstom UK & Ireland's Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Strategy.

You will be responsible for leading the school engagement and employability programmes through established frameworks of interactions with nominated schools, colleges, universities and other partners, to develop Alstom's Educational Outreach & Employability Programmes for underrepresented groups.

We'll look to you to:

  • Implement and monitor progress against Alstom UK&I Sustainability & CSR Strategy across UK&I sites and functions.
  • Create simple and scalable standardised Sustainability & CSR frameworks across the sites, championing best practices and learnings whilst being the subject matter expert for UK&I.
  • Project manage sustainability and CSR initiatives and events, influencing and coordinating employee involvement.
  • Lead the STEM agenda and related external engagements through an established framework of interactions with nominated educational establishments and external organisations, to develop Alstom's Educational Outreach & Employability Programmes for underrepresented groups.
  • Build collaborative relationships with educational establishments and external organisations to develop activities to meet our Sustainability & CSR objectives, evidencing development and social value to our local communities.
  • Create Sustainability & CSR communications internally to promote opportunities and champion successes, and externally to raise Alstom's profile in the rail industry and wider communities.
  • Partner and work collaboratively with customers on key initiatives and campaigns to develop relationship, providing continual improvements and identification of opportunities for development.
  • Support tender responses on business activities relating to Sustainability & CSR ensuring incorporation of feedback and lessons learnt from current projects to new bids.
  • Attend Sustainability & CSR Steering Committee Meetings reporting progress against reviews initiating improvement plans where targets not met.
  • Disseminate and collate Sustainability & CSR data to and from CSR Site Coordinators across over 30 UK&I sites.

  • 2:1- BEng / BSc / BA
  • 3 A Levels (minimum B Grades) or equivalent
  • 5 (or more) GCSEs at grade 5-9 (A*-C), including Maths and English
  • Proficient with MS Office tools
  • Database skills
  • Strong mathematical, analytical & quantitative skills
  • Demonstrable organisational and time management skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills
  • An understanding of the absolute requirement to observe health & safety measures.
