Make a Spatial Impact: GIS Technical Officer at East Dunbartonshire Council

Do you thrive on using data to solve problems and improve service delivery?

We are seeking a skilled GIS Technical Officer to join our dynamic team and play a key role in supporting the Council's digital transformation journey.

In this role, you'll:

  • Empower colleagues: Provide specialist GIS support to staff across Council departments, helping them create data-driven solutions for policy development, service delivery and customer service improvement.

  • Become a data champion: Lead projects to support land-use planning and climate change delivery priorities, develop and maintain the Council's GIS applications, ensuring that they meet evolving operational needs.

  • Bridge the gap: Collaborate with a diverse range of teams across the Council to ensure that everyone can leverage GIS effectively to support their projects and enhance service delivery.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Strong experience of applying their GIS skills, preferably including experience of using the ESRI ArcGIS platform.
  • Familiarity with Ordnance Survey products through the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement
  • A passion for automating tasks using scripting languages such as SQL or Python
  • Solid understanding of GIS principles, with a focus on policy and strategy development
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
PVG/Disclosure Scotland

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate's first salary payment.

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee's wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead.

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee's final salary.

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
