Japanese Media Company, a leading Japanese news agency, is currently seeking a full time researcher / reporter to join our London office.
Responsibilities include:
  • Monitoring UK and Japanese media daily for news stories
  • Compiling research on a variety of topics for Japanese correspondents
  • Assisting correspondents with all aspects of the news gathering process, including: arranging and conducting interviews for stories, transcribing interviews for Japanese correspondents
  • Attending media events (and occasionally sporting events) where necessary
  • Writing articles for English-language service, with the possibility of being published in Japan's biggest English-language paper
  • Working some weekends and weekday evenings where necessary
Required skills:
  • Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English
  • Excellent research/newsgathering skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (e.g. comfortable if called upon to interview high-profile individuals)
  • Strong interest in news media, with a good knowledge of current affairs and ability to spot emerging stories
  • Proactive attitude towards identifying/pitching stories of interest
  • Ability to work under pressure and good team player
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional travel and irregular hours, where required
Other desirable skills:
  • Experience working in media/newsroom environment
  • Knowledge of social media as a newsgathering tool
  • Strong IT skills
23k - 25k depending on experience, plus a discretionary bonus twice a year
  • Monday to Friday 9:30am - 5:30pm, excluding 1 hour lunch break​
  • ​ 25 days per year, plus bank holidays
  • Overtime allowance, Business trip allowance, A monthly travel card from zone 1 to 6 depending on where you live, Pension
