Job Description Apprentice Dog Day Care Assistant Location Luton LU :

Our day to day goal is to provide the best care for dogs by creating a safe, fun, and nurturing environment where they can thrive physically, mentally, and socially.

When greeting owners always ensuring exceptional customer service.

The person must be a dog enthusiast, Have great customer service skills, be physically fit ready to be on your feet and outdoors at times and have great organisation.

Duties include but not limited to;

  • Supervising all activities including general play with toys and ensure the dogs interact with each other appropriately - intervention required when play is getting too boisterous or over exuberant.
  • Handling and walking up to three dogs at a time, on and off lead, removing all canine faeces from public areas when out walking and demonstrating control.
  • Supervision of mental and physical enrichment games and creating new exciting activities for all dogs to participate in.
  • Taking dogs outside for toileting regularly.
  • Preparing lunches and feed for puppies and those with specific dietary requirements.
  • Cleaning duties including hygienic cleaning of urine and faeces when accidents occur inside the crèche and also general cleaning tasks end of day, with additional duties end of each working week.
  • General admin duties including answering of the phone and diary duties.
  • Greeting dogs and owners at the start of sessions and taking them out to their owners at the end. Candidates must be prepared to provide feedback to owners constructively if required.
  • Candidates must be prepared to follow usual health and safety guidelines and work within the terms of our day care licence conditions, to ensure highest standards of care and welfare of the dogs at all times.

Desired skills and qualities

  • Must be confident in handling dogs of all ages and breeds.
  • Some experience with dogs is essential and MUST be shown on application.
  • Enthusiasm, commitment, caring nature
  • Must be trustworthy and with evidence of good attendance in previous roles/school/college
  • Able to work as part of a small team and take responsibility.

Desired qualifications

  • No specific qualifications required but a good all round education preferred with Maths and English GCSE's, or equivalents, as a minimum.
  • Applicants MUST NOT already hold a level 2 or higher in animal care to be eligible.

Future prospects

  • Ability to grow within the role. Become a permanent daycare assistant and we have varied roles: Social media, driver, supervisors and managers
  • Creche Manager
  • Dog Trainer

Training

  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
  • All training will take place at the work location and the applicant will complete an animal care apprenticeship in full.

  • KEITS Training Services Ltd reserves the right to close the vacancy earlier than the listed closing date should the need arise.
  • The applicant needs to be able to get to work before 8am and would have to provide evidence of how they would get to/from our location at the time of interview.
  • This job would suit an individual who is energetic and has the ability to be on their feet for up to 10 hours per day.
