Position Overview

We are excited to offer a remarkable opportunity for a Trainee Plumbing Technician to become a part of our Estates Team at Bedfordshire Hospitals. In this role, you will assist in the proactive maintenance and repair of mechanical systems. You will also be required to attend weekly training sessions to enhance your skills in Mechanical Engineering.

This apprenticeship will focus on the following skill set - Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Plumber.

Compensation

The starting salary for this apprenticeship is structured as follows:

Band 3 - Year 1 Minimum, Year 2 Incremental, Year 3 Maximum step point.

Apprentice wages will be reviewed and increased annually or upon successful completion of designated stages.

The position requires a commitment of hours per week on an initial 48 Month Fixed Term Contract, along with Annual Leave and NHS pension benefits.

Job Duties

1. Learn to identify, diagnose, and rectify faults, as well as perform repairs and planned maintenance on mechanical services, equipment, and systems, including but not limited to heating systems, air conditioning, drainage systems, and catering equipment.

2. Understand the processes involved in reactive and planned maintenance of complex building engineering services related to the core skills of the position.

3. Complete all mandatory training as required.

4. Familiarize yourself with existing and new installations, assisting in commissioning and testing new work associated with the core skill.

5. Collaborate with clinical staff to coordinate equipment shutdowns and maintenance.

6. Learn to operate safely on heating, cooling, and water services, adhering to all statutory regulations and health and safety legislation, with training towards becoming an appointed Competent Person for Trust properties.

7. Conduct periodic checks, servicing, and testing of equipment in line with planned maintenance schedules.

  • GCSE qualifications in Maths, English, and Science at Grade 5 (C) or above, or recognized equivalents.
