Salary: UH6 £31,396 pa to £33,966 pa with the potential to progress to £37,099 pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: MacLaurin Building, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield. Hybrid working will be available for 1-2 days a week.

The University of Hertfordshire has an excellent and growing reputation in research and is keen to build on this success. The Research Office provides specialist support for a wide range of research activities such as research funding applications, research assessment, research governance, including ethics and research sponsorship.

This is a new role that will support the delivery of eternally and internally funded research projects.

Opportunities for professional development will be provided. The University currently operates flexible location principles, and the successful applicant will be able to work remotely as well as collaboratively on campus.

Main duties and responsibilities

The post-holder will support the successful set-up and delivery of research projects, providing advice and guidance to academic staff and professional services on processes and procedures.

Responsibilities will include monitoring grant expenditure, collating and archiving timesheets for certain projects, and ensuring reporting deadlines are met, in addition to supporting award holders with post-award administrative tasks such as recruitment and procurement.

With support from the Research Finance Team, you will monitor the budget and expenditure of projects to ensure research income is effectively used.

Skills and experience required

Experience working within a Higher Education Institution or research funder or similar complex organisation is essential, as is experience in managing spreadsheets and budgets.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to establish and work with office procedures and to work accurately under pressure to tight deadlines. Excellent communication and networking skills are essential.

Qualifications required

You will be educated with a minimum of a degree or equivalent qualifications or significant proven professional work experience in a relevant area to the role. Postgraduate qualification is desirable.
