Job Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced Customs Specialist to join our Europe Trade Control Specialists team in UK for a fixed period of 12 months (maternity cover), being responsible for all import and export related matters (both customs as well as military/dual use export controls).

Responsibilities for the position will be:

  • Establish trade control requirements with programs to obtain authorizations in compliance with all applicable regulations (primarily UK export and import controls as appropriate) and implement Internal Compliance Plans. Particular focus on customs special procedures (Inward Processing) management and Bill of Discharge review.
  • Manage the coordination of controls classification of products for the conduct of import or export transactions, in conjunction with programmes and the regulatory team within Global Trade Controls.
  • Coordinate communication with customs brokers, including conducting assessments and activities related to customs broker management both pre- and post clearance.
  • Maintain oversight of the customs compliance infrastructure including the development and implementation of processes and procedures; working with the business/programs in country, manage daily compliance operations, proposing solutions on customs related issues. Provide the business with suitable Customs solutions based on the business need. Provides oversight to the business in reviewing materials and data to support proper customs classifications if required.
  • Analyse and manage trade control requirements across functional teams, helping the business implement solutions to meet compliance requirements effectively.
  • Provide assistance to GTC UK on various customs matters including guidance on tariff, origin, value, customs regimes, simplified procedures and customs warehouse subjects.
  • Identify, Analyse, measure risk over multiple site or process areas for internal or external assessments and audits, and government requests for information.
  • Ensure compliance with authorizations and other customs requirements, laws and regulations, end-use and regulatory reporting obligations
  • Provides trade compliance training to employees where needed
  • Builds up, and maintains, a strong working relationship with entity representatives, functional leaders, and customs brokers in the region
  • Supports internal assessments of operational compliance on entities and customs brokers
  • Collaborate with GTC on specific international trade control projects
  • Identifies, documents, develops plans and executes solutions in support of enterprise compliance risk management objectives
  • Collaborates on the development of enterprise processes and deploys procedures; identifies potential implications to business objectives
  • Supports government audits and leads audit preparation work
  • Supports the drafting of new training materials in coordination with GTC manager

Basic qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of combined study and work-related experience.
  • Knowledge of UK export-control laws and regulations is required.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
  • Available to travel 5-10% of time (mainly domestic)

Preferred qualifications:

  • CDS Knowledge: Possess a strong understanding of the UK Customs Declaration System (CDS) and its associated processes.
  • Comfortable on UK country-specific Customs regulations and EU Customs matters.
  • Able to be self-motivated and to set high personal work standards.
  • Able to build strong and trusted relationships to achieve objectives is required.
  • Ability to read/analyse regulations and procedures
  • Demonstrable background in International Trade including strong understanding of customs clearance procedures and regulations.
  • Experience in managing inward processing authorizations and Bill of Discharge Reviews. Ideally experience in working for a customs broker.
  • Familiarity with customs broker management activities and assessments.
  • Technical degree or equivalent experience would be an asset
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with Excel.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills; able to work in a virtual global team
  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Willing to learn and to embrace more responsibilities
  • Self-motivated and with high personal work standards.

This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorization to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.

PLEASE NOTE: The successful candidate will be expected to obtain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with a potential to undergo a Security Clearance check in the future.
