An exciting opportunity has arisen for an MDT Facilitator to join our Cancer Services Team.

We are looking for an individual with an eye for detail, a strong team working ethic and who is passionate about providing excellent service for our patients.

The interview will involve a short test prior to interview to assess your accuracy, communication and typing skills.


As an MDT Facilitator you will have an eye for detail, a strong team working ethic and be passionate about providing excellent service for our patients.


You will be responsible for coordination of MDT Meetings which involves attendance at the MDT and live recording of outcomes.


You will also proactively track patients throughout the cancer pathway until they are diagnosed and have had their first treatment and any subsequent treatments.

A significant proportion of this role includes collecting clinical data and this needs to be done with great accuracy.

  • To work closely with clinicians, specialist nurses, secretaries and all members of the MultiDisciplinary Team (MDT) across all specialties to ensure that suspected and diagnosed cancer patients are actively managed through patient pathways.
  • To be responsible for the management of the patient's pathway, from referral, through diagnostics, treatment planning and treatment, highlighting any potential delays in the pathway and ensuring accurate data collection to support the process.
  • To provide effective administrative support to ensure smooth facilitation and co-ordination of multi-disciplinary team meetings (MDTs) on behalf of MDT Lead.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the accurate and complete collection and management of the national cancer minimum dataset for all patients discussed at MDT, and to ensure all patient pathways are correctly mapped and appropriately tracked.
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of all targets and processes relating to the patient pathway process for suspected and diagnosed cancer patients and to be a point of reference within the department of other members of the MDT.
  • To assist the Cancer Support Facilitators in the development and refinement of all MDT and cancer Quality Surveillance processes.
  • To actively monitor and manage the pathway of suspected and diagnosed cancer patients in defined specialties referred to the Trust, to ensure that the patient reaches the point of treatment within relevant time-scales.
  • To act as the patient navigator, and follow the patient journey from referral, through diagnosis, to treatment.
  • To ensure that appropriate requests for investigations are managed in a timely fashion. If diagnostic delays occur or appear imminent, it is the responsibility of the post holder to escalate to the relevant Manager.
  • To utilise negotiation skills effectively regarding theatre bookings, diagnostic testing and any other relevant procedures regarding the patient's effective pathway.
  • To liaise with members of the individual specialties MDT, and across the Trust as a whole, to ensure co-ordination of all elements of the patient pathway. This may include highlighting patient target dates etc. to ensure that investigations are carried out and results received in a timely manner.
  • To ensure all information relating to the patient's pathway clearly identifies all relevant target dates to aid other members of the MDT in allocating resources appropriately.
  • Attend the weekly Cancer Access Meeting to escalate bottlenecks/delays in patient pathways e.g. specific diagnostics and treatment delays to Cancer
