Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia to start in August 2024. This post is for an initial period of 6 months, however we anticipate following review and mutual agreement will likely be extended on a 6 month basis.

The Clinical Fellow position would suit any trainee with a minimum of two years' experience in the specialty, providing the opportunity to further their anaesthetic experience in a supervised training environment, completing modular training in a number of subspecialty areas of anaesthesia, appropriate for their level of experience. The post would potentially fulfil ST3-ST5 equivalence as described by the Royal College of Anaesthetists or, alternatively, would be suitable for more experienced anaesthetists wishing to gain further experience. Post-holders will be allocated an Educational Supervisor.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of clinical practice in anaesthesia (also potentially 3 months intensive care medicine if requested) and training will be delivered in a structured modular training programme as per the individual's needs. The post holder will participate in anaesthetics in a 1:8 full shift rota which includes long days, nights and weekend shifts.

Main duties of the job

A consultant anaesthetist will locally supervise daytime elective theatre work and out of hours there will be local supervision by the senior anaesthetic trainee as well as distant supervision by the on-call consultant. There will be an expectation for a 50% service provision.
