The role

Our National Cargo Bike Mechanic will be based at our Cambridge depot, and lead the maintenance of our fleet of electric cargo bikes and trikes at hubs around the country.

This is a full-time position, which will require regular travel from Cambridge to other cities in the UK to ensure all of our bikes are roadworthy and serviced regularly.


Pay:
Up to £35,000 per annum plus excellent benefits (see below) and car allowance

Location:
Cambridge, with frequent travel (pre planned travel and TOIL offered in return)

Contract:
Permanent. 37.5 hours per week.

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Maintain a schedule of periodic preventative maintenance on our fleet to minimise OTR issues
  • Keep effective records of maintenance and repairs made so that these repairs can be assessed and referenced by the hub manager.
  • Regular travel across the country to service and maintain fleets of vehicles in various city hubs (approximately 5060% of the time)
  • Communicate effectively any problems that arise with the bikes to the relevant team, and report any concerns
  • Manage the inventory of parts and tools required to maintain the fleet, including sourcing, ordering and testing
  • Proactively generate and test recommendations to improve the fleet's reliability, safety and longevity
  • Support efforts to modify and enhance the fleet
  • Train local mechanics, at each hub, to enable them to carry out routine bike maintenance tasks
  • Complete fire and health and safety checks with regular inspection of the bike fleets and workshops
  • Actively strive to create a safe and dynamic working environment

Essential criteria - you must have:

  • At least 2 years experience as a bike mechanic or similar mechanical engineering
  • Experience with electrical wiring and low voltage systems
  • Ability to problem solve light engineering issues
  • Excellent communication with a friendly and approachable manner
  • A genuine desire to help make our cities better places to live
  • Full driving licence

Essential criteria - you must be:

  • Methodical with an eye for detail
  • Meticulous approach to organisation and cleanliness
  • Dynamic and hardworking
  • Comfortable riding a range of bikes in an urban environment
  • Prepared to work unsupervised for long periods and able to use own initiative
  • Punctual, trustworthy and very reliable

Desirable attributes - you should have at least some of these:

  • At least one years experience in a senior mechanic role
  • A professional engineering or bike maintenance qualification
  • Experience driving a variety of size vans
  • Experience working on electric bikes with an understanding of low voltage battery systems
  • Experience working on cargo bikes
  • Wider engineering skills/qualifications eg welding
  • Bike ability Level 3 qualification
  • Health & Safety experience and/or training
  • Current first aid certificate

Hours of work:


The weekly schedule is negotiable for this position but a minimum of 37.5 hours per week is required Monday to Sunday and will involve overnight stays where needed.

TOIL will be offered to compensate for travel and nights away.
