Major Trauma Practitioner

You will support the Major Trauma Service with the coordination of designated major trauma patients on the major trauma pathway from admission to discharge/repatriation.

The post holder will work alongside the relevant multi-disciplinary in-patient speciality teams in the MTC and link in with providers in the wider East of England Trauma Network.


You will be expected to implement and audit key performance indicators relating to the management of trauma patients, in particular elderly trauma, as detailed in national targets.

There will be a need to establish and develop relationships with other health care and community providers to benefit the patient experience and journey and be a source of information and advice for clinicians, patients and relatives.


Working as part of the Major Trauma Coordination Service, the post holder will practice independently using advanced clinical, analytical and decision making skills.

The role will need the ability to work across professional, departmental and organisational boundaries to develop patient-centred, seamless care pathways.

You will need to perform at an advanced level to support the major trauma pathway and can demonstrate your ability at this level through:

  • Expert clinical practice
  • Leadership and management in order to improve and transform services
  • Education and development of self and others.
  • In addition to managing a caseload of patients, the role will have a key function in the implementation of new/changing national targets for major trauma in order to support the discharge and rehabilitation end of the pathway, linking in with relevant professionals across the Major Trauma Centre and Major Trauma Network and coordinate the completion and distribution of trauma rehabilitation prescriptions as appropriate.
  • Working as part of the Major Trauma Service you will practice independently using advanced clinical, analytical and decision making skills.
  • You will be a registered professional (nursing or allied heath) and have a background in trauma care.
