Job summary

We are looking for a Band 2 Care Support Worker to join our team on the Children's Department at Worcester Royal Hospital.

We are expanding our children's service to include a Paediatric Assessment Unit, which has given us the opportunity to recruit additional staff. This post will involve rotation between Riverbank Children's Ward and the Paediatric Assessment Unit.

We are looking for a team player who is organised, reliable, and professional. The ability to work in a fast paced, patient facing environment and undertake shift work rotating between day and night shifts is essential. We provide a warm, friendly environment for the child / young person and their family, so the ability to communicate with all ages is key. Previous experience of working with children will be helpful.

As a Care Support Worker, you will undertake a range of clinical and non-clinical tasks and responsibilities in order to support the registered nursing staff to provide a high-quality service and care. You will work alongside our friendly, highly professional and skilled multi-disciplinary teams of Doctors, Nurses, Child Health Care Assistants and allied health professionals.

In return you will be well supported and have learning opportunities co-ordinated by the Childrens Nurse Education Team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support professionally registered staff in providing quality care for patients, they will also help the multi professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and/or investigations maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.

You will undertake routine assessment tasks related to the individuals health and wellbeing, ensuring that accurate written and electronic documentation is completed.

The post holder will contribute to the smooth running of the ward, ensuring that infection control measures are adhered to, and appropriate stock levels are available in the housekeepers absence.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of health and safety atwork in order to maintain a safe environment.

Undertake observations including temperature, pulse, respirations, bloodpressure, oxygen saturation levels and conscious level using the AVPU score.Any variations must be reported immediately to registered staff to maintainpatient safety.

Attend to the activities of daily living needs of patients, under thesupervision and direction of a registered nurse, to ensure that patientsreceive care appropriate to their needs. All care given must be documented inthe patients record and countersigned by a registered nurse.

Report immediately to the Nurse in Charge any observed change in apatients condition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing ormedical treatment to maintain patient safety and improve communication.

Respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patientreceives appropriate care.

Report any safeguarding concerns to the nurse in charge.

Adhere to Infection Control Policies

Adhere to the uniform Policy

Chaperone patients to other clinical departments, following assessmentby a trained nurse, to maintain patient safety.

Ensure your own actions help to maintain department safety and enhancequality of care to children, young people and their families.
