The primary purpose of this post is to provide a high standard of clerical support within the Breast Unit.

The duties of the post holder will be varied and will include liaison with Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Secretaries regarding patients referred to the Breast & Endocrine Surgery service, ensuring that all relevant correspondence is provided to patients.

The post holder will also provide clerical support to outpatient clinics, booking appointments and clinic reception.


The post holder has responsibility to undertake the full range of duties commensurate with the role (booking/reception) and shall as necessary be flexible in providing cover for absent colleagues in order to maintain service provision.

The post holder shall follow all policies and procedures of the Organisation.

Arrange interpreters for patients as necessary.

Deal with patient enquiries regarding referrals and outpatient appointments. This may involve dealing with people who are upset, worried or acting aggressively. Check all demographic details and update as necessary.

Prioritise all workloads whilst unsupervised in the office.

Liaise with GP practices/other hospitals to obtain information as required.

Provide clerical support for outpatient clinics.

Undertake any training activity to ensure policies and procedures are understood, and to develop within the role as required.

Re-book or discharge patients as per Consultant's decision. Ensure that all DNA's are correctly marked and followed up.

Maintain good communications and relationships with patients/relatives and carers, general public and all disciplines of staff.


Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.
