We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative Senior clinical fellow to join our dynamic team, working on our Primary and regional Stroke Centre at Northampton General Hospital in Northampton.

You will be joining a highly motivated and highly performing Stroke Team at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, Affiliated to University of Leicester and will be one of five Stroke Physicians working on the Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust site.

You will be expected to support Stroke Services and participate on the thrombolysis on-call rota at Northampton General Hospital.


We are one of best performing hyper-acute units in East midlands and are proud to say we provide award-winning services to all patients.


You would be joining a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Consultants, Specialist Registrars, Stroke Nurse Specialists, middle grade doctors and Senior Stakeholders.

The post holder will work alongside a team of consultants and junior medical.

The post holder will work across all aspects of the service.

The key aim is to develop the knowledge, and skills required to work in a high-quality comprehensive stroke/neurology service.

To participate in the future development of the stroke/neurology Services for the Trust

To provide strong leadership for the junior medical staff

To assist in providing stroke service to the Trust which may include an outpatient service for follow up of recently discharged patients or a new patient clinic for urgent referrals to avoid admission

To support and provide teaching and training of junior medical staff, medical and physician associate students, post graduate training and nurse training on the unit

To ensure good practice by regular audit and review of incidents with clinical team and take forward the lessons learnt

To link in with the directorate clinical governance meetings and contribute to lessons learnt from incidents and complaints

Northampton General Hospital is the Primary Stroke Centre for Northamptonshire and has a cohesive team of experienced staff from all disciplines.

The Northampton stroke service has developed over many years and has a centrally placed 21 bed Hyperacute stroke unit (Benham ward) near A&E, radiology and ITU with a 27 bed subacute/rehabilitation unit (Allebone ward) next door and close to a nearby excellent physiotherapy gymnasium.


The Northamptonshire Community Stroke team links with the inpatient stroke team to facilitate a smooth transition for patients back into the community.
