Job summary

The post holder will support the Band 7 Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator in delivering the national screening programmes.

The role requires extensive knowledge of all Antenatal and Newborn screening programmes, the ability to educate others and the ability to facilitate change.

The post holder will also support and counsel couples regarding conditions identified through the screening programme.

Main duties of the job

Assist the Antenatal Screening Coordinator Midwife to:

To coordinate the management of an efficient and effective antenatal screening programme and high-risk obstetric service.

Provide specialist advice on antenatal screening to women and health professionals.

Counsel and support women throughout the antenatal screening and diagnosis programme.

Have responsibility for the smooth running, planning and development of the hospital antenatal clinic.

Deputise for the screening coordinator in their absence.

To provide support with failsafe processes

To exercise leadership and facilitate operational day-to-day co-ordination of the antenatal clinics, ensuring an efficient and effective service within the resources available.

Liaise with the Antenatal and Newborn Screening co-ordinator to ensure oversight of work and cover during periods of leave

Liaise with the fail safe officer to ensure databases for screening are up to date

Ensure the provision of information to the expectant mother is available both written and verbal to enable her to make an informed choice as to antenatal screening services available to her.

Counsel, support and advise women on all aspects pertaining to screening, invasive procedures and high risk care.
