Job Duties
- Conduct control operations using well-trained canines to ensure security over supervisees and maintain safe confinement.
- Supervise daily activities of offenders, record behavior, and movement.
- Earn and hold patrol handler canine certification.
- Keep assigned canine ready 24/7 through exercising and feeding.
- Conduct patrols, prepare reports, and maintain logs.
- Prevent escapes by supervising and reporting supervisees' conduct.
- Maintain assigned equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License and Corrections Officer Certification by DCJS.
- Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies.
- Ability to train and handle canines.
- Ability to read and comprehend policies, prepare reports using a computer.
Additional Considerations
- Formal experience or education in training and caring for canines.
Special Instructions
- Confirmation of receipt upon successful submission of application.
- Background investigation and drug testing requirements.
