Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corrections Officer to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Corrections Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and secure confinement of offenders while observing and recording their behavior and movement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct patrols in secure perimeter to ensure the safety and security of offenders and staff.
  • Supervise the daily activities of offenders and provide security over adult supervisees at the institution and while in transport.
  • Provide security and maintain order in the institution, including responding to emergencies and incidents.
  • Prepare reports and maintain logs to document offender behavior and movement.
  • Testify in court or hearings as necessary.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and ensure the proper care and handling of canines.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or a GED equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Certification as Corrections Officer by DCJS.
  • Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and handle canines.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and to prepare workplace reports and documentation using a computer.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal Experience or education in training and caring for canines.
