After a period of formal in-house training normally covering 6-12 months and a 2 day ECG workshop covering ECG interpretation, would be required to be competent in identifying the correct lead positions in performing a 12 lead ECG, knowledge of basic cardiac rhythms and life threatening arrhythmias.
Work towards completing the Certificate in Electrocardiography exam as set by the Cardiac Society.- To perform a range of routine and urgent cardiac investigations including 12 Lead Electrocardiographs (ECG)
- Fit and remove 24 hour Ambulatory ECG Monitors, Event Recorders and 24 hour Blood Pressure(BP) monitors (with ECG) on both inpatients and outpatients.
- Continually obtain accurate test results from a wide cross section of patients. Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Performs a basic range of cardiac investigations, mostly covering 12 lead Electrocardiographs (ECG), also includes fitting and removing 24 hour monitors, blood pressure monitors and event recorders.
Follows set policies and guidelines as set by both trust management and the cardiac society.
Responsible for maintaining, calibration and general care of ECG equipment and to organise the servicing and repairs to ECG equipment as necessary.
May be required to demonstrate to other health professionals and medical students how to perform a 12 lead ECG (normally done as part of the daily ward round routine).
Record ECG test results, Download test results for 24 hour BP monitoring and event recorders and send to relevant consultant secretary.
Will be required to keep abreast of developments within the field of Cardiology, to ensure continuity of service provision. Participation in research performing tests and recording data. Involvement in audit and the testing of new equipment.
To maintain a working knowledge of emergency procedures with regard to resuscitation, fire, hazardous substances and potential hazards within the department therefore securing a safe environment for all.
