This role is a replacement role within the Academy of the Great Western Hospital with a focus on Undergraduate Medical Education.

As a Trust, we place high importance on staff wellbeing, you will be offered a wide variety of support to help you maintain your wellbeing and to help colleagues maintain theirs.

This post is aimed at post-foundation year doctors who wish to spend time working in a medical educational role at The Academy in Swindon working with medical students from the University of Bristol (UoB), Oxford (UoO) and Kings College London (KCL).

In each Academy, the organisation and delivery of the undergraduate programme is led by the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education (DUME)


The CTF's main role is to help the DUME, Deputy AMD, the UC / UT's and other teachers deliver the undergraduate curriculum.

Junior Medicine / Surgery

  • The CTF's work on a day-to-day basis with the Academy Undergraduate Manager and administrators, and the UC / UT's who are responsible for organizing the formal teaching programme and clinical placements for that Unit in their Academy. They will ensure that specified formal teaching sessions are appropriately timetabled and delivered.
  • CTF's need to be in regular communication with the UT / UC and with each other. They meet formally throughout the year, to review the course and plan for the future. In order to achieve this each CTF will develop and use an individual or group CTF Outlook Calendar.
  • An Office Based CTF is expected to work 40 hrs per week 09:00 - 17:00of which one day will be spent in a clinical specialty,see allocation of clinical areas of responsibility below. It is recognized that the workload is variable and that the hours will need to be flexible.

The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
