Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom Teesside University Full time

We pleased to advertise the opportunity for a current full-time Teesside Undergraduate or Postgraduate student to undertake the role of a paid research assistant on a large multi-university Collaborative Research Project supported by the University Alliance (UA).

Context:

The proposed project will expand on the work of a currently ongoing Quality Assurance Association (QAA) Collaborative Enhancement project (due to conclude July 2023) involving 8 UA member institutions with the purpose of analysing assessment outcomes for specific cohorts of students during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The project will develop a shared understanding of cross-institution assessment policy and practice arrangements with these insights informing a series of evidence-informed inclusive assessment attributes, along with guidance and recommendations for implementation in policy and practice.

Proposal:

Building upon the methodological work and findings of the QAA Collaborative Enhancement project, the purpose of the proposed programme of work is to extend the focus to years 2 and 3 of the pandemic and to identify and examine evidence of 'sustainable inclusive assessment practices' and their impact on the ability of higher education (HE) providers to improve student retention and success.

With a sharper focus on practice-level innovations in inclusive assessment, this project aims to better understand 'What Works' in the context of inclusive assessment for student 'success' and 'retention', distilling actionable insights and models for practice across disciplines.

Project Objectives:

  • To analyse assessment outcomes for specific cohorts of students during the and academic years (pandemic years 2 and 3) to understand the specific retention and success challenges and opportunities in each discipline.
  • To examine the extent to which the QAA inclusive assessments attributes are sustained across assessment arrangements during the and academic years
  • To identify evidenceinformed interventions and principles of practice that address key issues of concern in relation to student retention and success
  • To devise a series of evidenceinformed practice exemplars of sustainable inclusive assessment practice in each discipline

The role is based on students working a maximum of 70 hours (this includes 10hrs for mandatory induction and training) between February and July 2023 with remuneration of £11.48 per hour.

Please see the Job Description and Person Specification

Interviews to take place week commencing 20 February 2023.
