Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Barking, Greater London, United Kingdom NELFT NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The Barking and Dagenham Speech and Language Therapy team has recently had a Business Case approved, which means we've got funding for new Band 7 posts.

This is a really exciting opportunity for us to continue to grow and develop as a team and provide an innovative and effective service to the children/young people and families that we work with.

As a Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will be responsible for leading on our Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) pathway within primary schools.

The role will involve sharing the lead on DLD with our Early Years and secondary-aged pathway leads. In return, you will join a supportive team environment and be provided with robust personal development opportunities.

You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively to deliver training as part of the Speech Therapy & Education Partnership in Schools (STEPS) programme.

This programme is run by NELFT Speech and Language Therapists in conjunction with Local Authority staff to offer a range of education and trainings to all school staff (SENCos, class teachers, Teaching Assistants, and ARP staff) who work with children with speech, language and communication needs.

Contribute to the provision of Speech and Language Therapy services in Barking and Dagenham.

Provide support to the Primary School DLD Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) within Barking and Dagenham.

Administer comprehensive formal and informal assessments and make differential diagnoses on the basis of assessment findings.

Develop and deliver evidence-based intervention programmes, adapting and facilitating therapy according to client-centred needs.

Independently organise, plan and prioritise your workload and caseload.

Provide highly specialist knowledge, advice, training and teaching to parents/carers, education staff, multidisciplinary team members and other colleagues.

Attend relevant training courses, meetings and Clinical Excellence Networks (CENs) related to your specialism.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

COVID-19 Vaccination
We continue to encourage all staff to ensure that they have been double vaccinated and received their booster.

We recognise that taking the vaccine provides the best defence against COVID 19 for our patients, our staff and their families.

Probationary Period

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary with a minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum (pro rata).

In Barking and Dagenham, we provide support to children/young people in a range of settings, including nurseries/schools, clinics, homes and ARPs.

We have a range of specialist pathways, including; Deafness, Dysphagia/Feeding, Stammering, Speech Sound Disorders, Developmental Language Disorder, Autism and Social Communication, Voice, and Complex Needs.

Please get in touch if you think you could bring something to the role and are interested in joining our team (even if you don't meet all of the role requirements)

Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for further details about our vacancies.
