An exciting post has become available in our small, but experienced and friendly acute paediatric speech and language team.

This post will be based at Royal Preston Hospital and the post-holder will be responsible for delivering a service to children aged 0-5 years who present with complex feeding difficulties.

Out-patient clinics are run on site and you will also cover children admitted to our paediatric ward.

This post offers varied experience with complex dysphagia and you will also be involved in the weekly videofluroscopy clinic at Royal Preston Hospital.

There will be the opportunity to gain experience and develop skills and competencies within the busy videofluoroscopy clinic.


To work as an autonomous practitioner to provide dysphagia assessment and intervention to a varied paediatric caseload, including infants on the neonatal unit and paediatric wards.


To work with infants and children who may have long term complex conditions, to provide specialist assessment and management plans.


To deliver video fluoroscopy assessments for both inpatients and outpatients with dysphagia to offer expert diagnosis and management plans depending on results (previous training required, if not trained there will be opportunity to work with a trained speech therapist in these clinics).

To engage in regular supervision with the clinical lead

To support with clinical problem-solving and service improvement with the clinical lead.


To educate the multi-disciplinary team in the trust on elements of SLT in your designated clinical area, and raise the profile of the SLT service.

To work closely with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team and demonstrate excellent communication skills.


To ensure that the therapy service in the designated clinical area is responsive to user requirements within the available resources and in accordance with directorate and departmental plans.


To assist in the teaching and clinical supervision of students and more junior therapy staff, and to take an active role in multi-disciplinary teaching sessions within the paediatric speech and language therapy team.

Speech and Language Therapy

Language Therapy Service for both staff and patients

  • To directly support the delivery of therapy to patients
  • To provide leadership and management support
