We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking speech and language therapist who has a passion to work with patients across the medical and surgical pathways.

This post provides opportunities to develop specialist skills in an area of interest which could include emergency medicine, respiratory medicine, enhance high care (invasive and non-invasive ventilation), gastroenterology, vascular and orthopaedic surgery, elderly medicine, acute frailty, admission avoidance and critical care step down pathways.


You will thrive working with different multi-disciplinary teams to deliver holistic patient care as well as partake in quality improvement projects to review and improve service delivery.

You are required to have specialist dysphagia skills in addition to having the skills to support the communication needs of patients in an acute setting.


The Speech and Language therapy team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large, friendly and innovative team comprised of 30 staff.

You will gain exposure to videofluoroscopy and FEES and have excellent clinical supervision from senior SLTs as well as opportunities for peer supervision.

We place a strong focus on evidence-based practice, CPD, appraisal and training opportunities.

The department is rated 'GOLD' on the STAR quality assurance framework, with a strong commitment to evidence-based practice. Videofluoroscopy and FEES services are well established and we are able to offer training in these areas.


In this role, you will leverage your specialised clinical skills to comprehensively assess, diagnose, and independently manage dysphagia and disorders of communication.

Whether you're working in inpatient care or providing ongoing support in outpatient settings, your expertise will be instrumental in addressing the diverse needs of our patients.

You'll conduct thorough evaluations to identify underlying issues and develop tailored treatment plans that promote effective communication and safe swallowing.

You'll serve as a key representative of the speech and language therapy discipline within our multidisciplinary team settings.

Your role will extend beyond individual patient care as you actively contribute to collaborative decision-making processes regarding the management of patients with communication and swallowing difficulties.

By sharing your insights and expertise with colleagues from various specialities, you'll play a vital role in developing holistic treatment approaches that prioritise patient well-being and improve overall outcomes.


Lancashire Teaching Hospitals has a large inpatient and outpatient service and provides tertiary services and comprehensive care to the Lancashire and South Cumbria region.
