Job Summary:

King Edward VII's Hospital is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Operating Theatre Attendant to join our Surgical Services team.

The Operating Theatre Attendant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation, and assisting the surgical team during procedures.

This position is vital in upholding the hospital's commitment to providing safe and exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

1.

Room Preparation:


  • Ensure operating rooms are fully prepared and equipped before each surgical procedure.
Set up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies according to surgeon's preferences and the scheduled procedures

  • Ensure all equipment is in working order and sterile

2.

Sterilisation and Infection Control:


  • Follow strict protocols for sterilization of surgical instruments, linens, and equipment.
  • Maintain aseptic conditions within the operating room at all times.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of sterile supplies

3.

Patient Assistance:


  • Assist in transporting patients to and from the operating room.
  • Provide support to patients and their families, answering questions and addressing concerns.
  • Ensure patients are properly positioned and comfortable on the operating table.

4.

Team Support:


  • Assist the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments and supplies as requested.
  • Maintain a sterile field and assist in draping patients and preparing them for surgery.
  • Maintain communication with the surgical team to anticipate their needs.

5.

Cleaning and Maintenance:


  • Clean and disinfect operating rooms and equipment after each procedure.
  • Restock and organise supplies in the operating rooms and adjacent areas.
  • Report any maintenance or equipment issues to the appropriate personnel.

Compliance and Documentation:


  • Follow hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Document and maintain accurate records related to surgical procedures, equipment usage, and sterilisation.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a hospital or surgical environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques, sterilisation procedures, and infection control.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a surgical team and communicate clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a fastpaced environment.
  • Physical fitness and dexterity to lift and move equipment and assist with patient transfers.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks.

Who we are looking for:

  • Previous experience as a porter in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred but not mandatory
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Good physical fitness and strength to move patients and equipment safely
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and infection control policies
  • Good customer service skills and a helpful attitude
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced and sometimes stressful environment.
