Care Assistant for a Teenage Boy P/t @

Main Duties
- We are looking for two support workers to work together to provide support to a young man to access age appropriate activities initially at home and then moving into the community.
- Male workers would be preferred (although not essential) as the young man will require support with personal care.
- Support is required to enable this child to access suitable activities at home proving respite for main family carers.
- Support will lead onto leisure activities within the local community, including bike rides, swimming and going to the beach and park.
- The child can become very anxious and distressed in busy places, which can affect his behaviour, and he requires a high level of supervision to keep him safe. He has limited awareness of risk and full support will be required with this.
- Support is also required with the child's limited ability to communicate verbally.
- His first language is Arabic however he has few familiar or contextual words in Arabic or English.
- He makes use of visual prompts such as PECs and communication books in school and continuation of this would be preferred
Car driver required and must be insured for business use.
The ideal worker will:
- Be calm, patient and able to build a working relationship with both the client and family
- Be physically able to manage the young man if he becomes anxious
- Have documented experience of supporting adults/children with additional needs and/or challenging behaviour
Hours
- 5 hours per week.
Rates of pay
- £10.82 per hour.
- Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year prorata.
- Out of pocket expenses to be paid by employer.
The successful applicants must:
- Have a positive understanding about children who have disabilities
- Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs
- Be able to respond positively, sensitively and effectively should situations arise
- Have knowledge and experience of working with children who have very limited verbal communication skills
- Have a high degree of initiative
- Be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised
- Be flexible
- Have a happy, positive and caring nature
- Respect confidentiality
- Car driver required and must be insured for business use.
