Shrewsbury, United Kingdom Environment Agency Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Central Estates team as a Project Support Officer. You’ll be supporting important flood risk management projects across the East and West Midlands using your excellent organisational skills.

You’ll be working in collaboration with surveyor colleagues within the team as well as with teams from across the breadth of the organisation to deliver sustainable environmental outcomes.

As part of this front line operational team, your days will be varied and challenging and include compiling reference information and plans of land ownership as well as co-ordinating activity at all stages of project delivery.

You’ll also be involved in processing sensitive information surrounding compensation negotiations and other financial related activity. We will support your learning and development specific for this role as well as help you to think about your longer term career. You may be recently graduated or already have experience in a project support or administrative / financial role and are looking for a change.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join an organisation committed to tackling the climate emergency.

The team

The Estates Team sits within the larger Sustainability, Funding and Service Operations directorate. You can read more about the directorate in the Additional Information pack.

The Estates service extends to 130 people, offering professional support for Environment Agency land, property, compensation and valuation matters. We are core to the delivery of the Agency's £5.4 billion capital programme to better protect 336,000 homes.

Experience/skills required

Working as a Project Support Officer in the Environment Agency means the environment will be at the heart of everything you do: the quality support you deliver will help to ensure we maximise sustainability, value for money and drive forward positive environmental outcomes for our local communities. You’ll need to:

  • Be an effective communicator and have a natural aptitude for administrative processes and compliance, including financial payments
  • Demonstrate working as part of a team and independently. A natural organiser, you’ll effectively manage your time to achieve tight or conflicting deadlines. You’ll use initiative to help improve administrative processes and improve efficiency
  • Show excellent attention to detail, including accuracy when handling data and information; demonstrate compliance with data protection laws, internal policies and standards to robustly maintain records
  • Be experienced in Microsoft Office applications and basic Geographic Information System (GIS) Skills (training can be provided)
About you Achieves Results

As a vital team member in our frontline operational team, this role requires you to have the ability to multitask and provide excellent support which enables others. We need someone who is tenacious with the drive to meet high standards: your passion to achieve results despite competing deadlines will be clear.
