Full time - 35 hours per week

The opportunity:

Are you passionate about improving support for students in higher education across all disciplines and all backgrounds? Does the opportunity to build, manage and influence relationships between alumni and donors excite you? Would you thrive in a collaborative, ambitious, income generating working environment? Are you a proven leader with the skills and personality to lead teams in the UK and overseas to take philanthropy and advancement in individual giving to the next level?

We are seeing a Head of Philanthropy for Student Programmes and Individual Giving to lead three fundraising teams (University Programmes Team, United States Philanthropy Team and Supporter Engagement Team) who (broadly, but not exclusively) focus on fundraising from alumni and individuals.

This is a senior-level role, with wide-ranging responsibilities to deliver a strategic priority for the University. The post holder will be responsible for three broad areas which are:

  • Devising and delivering a strategy for individual giving from alumni and other donors in a wide range of forms
  • Using these activities to drive gifts to support students
  • Using these methods to support a range of University priorities by collaborating with advancement leads for other School and College priorities.

The scope of the role is large and will include overseeing preparation for and implementation of several major strands of strategic philanthropic activity concurrently. The post holder will focus on developing the University’s activities to diversify its long-term income streams by increasing philanthropic income from alumni, individuals, stakeholders and other funders.

This is an open-ended and full-time position with the possibility of hybrid working.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Significant experience of managing income-generating teams, with demonstrable experience of motivating teams in progressively more demanding roles.
  • Extensive experience of fundraising in Regular Giving or an equivalent level track-record of securing income through a variety of techniques, including in a front-facing role in sales, communications or marketing.
  • Experience of developing strategic detailed income generation and engagement plans with associated communications and analysis of the impact (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of UK charity law, data protection/ GDPR, governance, and experience of working with relationship management databases, including relevant data analysis to inform strategic planning and decision making.
