Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Engineer to join our dynamic team.


The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data engineering with a strong focus on the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, as well as SQL Server both on-premises and in the cloud. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust and scalable data solutions that support our customers' data-driven decision-making processes.


Additionally, you will develop business intelligence solutions to enhance data accessibility and usability for stakeholders. The candidate must be committed to continuously updating their Azure certifications and learning other tools, technologies and methods as needed.


This role requires the ability to effectively engage with clients with a balanced approach of diplomacy and assertiveness. The role is mostly remote, with on-site work required occasionally and occasional team meetings at a shared location.

  • £50k - £65k p/a (depending on experience)
  • 25 days annual leave plus Public Holidays
  • Flexible working hours


After 6 months:

Responsibilities:


  • Design and Implement Data Solutions: Develop, construct, test, and maintain architectures such as databases and large-scale processing systems on Azure and SQL Server (both on-premises and cloud-based) for clients.
  • Data Integration: Integrate and transform data from various sources using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and other Azure services.
  • Data Modelling: Design and maintain data models that support data warehousing and business intelligence solutions, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and optimal performance. Create logical, physical, and conceptual data models that align with business requirements.
  • Data Warehousing: Design and implement data warehousing solutions using Azure SQL Data Warehouse (Synapse Analytics) and SQL Server, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.
  • ETL Processes: Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using tools such as Azure Data Factory and SSIS to ensure data is accurate, timely, and consistent.
  • Ongoing Support: Provide ongoing support and maintenance for the solutions implemented for clients, ensuring they continue to operate efficiently and effectively.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimise and tune data storage, retrieval, and processing operations to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet client needs.
  • Teamwork: Share your experience and knowledge with the rest of the team, contributing to a collaborative and learning-focused environment.
  • Documentation: Document data solutions, processes, and system configurations thoroughly and accurately, adhering to established naming conventions and standards.
  • Client Engagement: Interact with clients effectively, primarily remotely with occasional on-site visits, ensuring their needs are met with a balanced approach of diplomacy and assertiveness. Perform knowledge sharing with clients to ensure effective use of the delivered solutions
  • Self-Management: Manage your own time and priorities effectively, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and meet the required standards.


Useful Additional Skills:


  • Data Governance: Implement data governance and data quality measures to ensure data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Data Analysis & Visualisation: Use Power BI to analyse data and create visual reports and dashboards for clients.
  • Automate Workflows: Utilise Power Automate to create and manage automated workflows that streamline business processes and improve efficiency.


Continuous Learning and Certification:


  • Certifications: Keep Azure certifications up to date to ensure knowledge of the latest Azure technologies and best practices.
  • Learning New Tools: Learn and implement other tools and supporting technologies as well as business applications.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training sessions, workshops, and other professional development activities to continuously improve skills.


Required Experience


  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data engineering or data warehousing, with a focus on Microsoft technologies.
