Are you ready for a new challenge? Do you have the resilience, compassion, and dedication to work in a demanding yet rewarding environment? We are looking for motivated Teaching Assistants to join Teaching Personnel for a secondary school that specialises in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

About the role:

As a Teaching Assistant in this SEMH school, you will work closely with students who present with complex emotional and behavioural difficulties. This is a challenging role, but one where you will have the opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of young people who need positive role models and consistency. Your role will involve supporting students in and out of the classroom, helping them engage with their learning, and developing their social and emotional skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in delivering lessons by providing individual and group support to students who require additional help with learning.
  • Behavioural Guidance: Work with students to help manage challenging behaviours, providing clear boundaries, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.
  • Emotional Support: Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, offering pastoral care and helping them build confidence and resilience.
  • Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to implement behaviour management plans and tailored learning strategies.
  • Foster Independence: Encourage students to develop self-regulation skills, promoting independence and personal responsibility.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and well-being of all students, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.

What the school is looking for:

  • Experience in SEMH Settings: Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours is essential.
  • Patience and Resilience: A calm, compassionate, and resilient attitude is critical, as the role will involve managing complex and sometimes unpredictable situations.
  • Strong Communication Skills: The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents, and to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: A proactive approach, able to adapt to the evolving needs of the students and think on your feet.
  • Commitment to Student Success: A genuine belief in the potential of every young person, regardless of their starting point.

Why join us?

  • Make a Real Impact: Help students overcome significant challenges and achieve their personal and academic goals.
  • Supportive Team: Be part of a dedicated and compassionate team that values collaboration and peer support.
  • Professional Development: Receive ongoing training and opportunities to further develop your skills in SEMH support and education.
  • Competitive Salary and Benefits: A salary and benefits package reflective of the demanding nature of the role.
